Ok, a new issue. Magix 2.2 system. Merlin Messaging 2.5

We had to displace 11 of our employees temporarily. They all had DID's. My plan was to move their extension off the station, and replace it with extensions which do not have DID's. I did this in the hope that their DID would still point to their mailbox. The new DID'less extensions are working flawlessly.

I also set the displaced extensions to "No Phone."

Now, when you call any of the DID's it goes directly to the operator. When you try to dial the extension, you get the error tone (deedle-deedle-deedle.)

We deleted one of the mailboxes and created it again as a "transfer only" but all that did was make the extention available internally, the DID still goes automatically to the operator.

We have a DID attached to an extension with VM. It has been working fine for two years. Is there anything I can look at on that extension which would tell me what I am missing with the rest?

Thanks!!

Rob

Renumber adjuncts to those old DID numbers and cover them to voice mail. That will give the phone system a target for the DID numbers to hit, and then route to the VM. Calls from the auto attendant to those extensions would work fine if the phone status is set to no phone.

In order for the old DID numbers to be covered by voicemail, you need to create some kind of "object" for the call to be routed to.

I would simply renumber some unused adjuncts. The adjunct space will likely be in the 7300 range. Just take 7300-7310 (if available) and renumber them to the employee's old extension number. Also, make sure that these adjuncts are placed in Cover Group 30...or whatever the VMS cover group is.

When a DID call comes in, it needs some place to ring. The digits sent in the call must match an extension, adjunct, calling group or other object type for call completion. If none of those exist, the call will default back to the Operator with a "COVER DID#?" message on the display. That is--effectively--the PBX complaining that the Operator is covering for a DID number that is unknown because it has no place to route to.

The Transfer-Only capability of a mailbox is only useful when the call is originating from the voicemail side of the house, like an Automated Attendant. DID calls are originating from the PBX side, so a terminating point with coverage to voicemail (like an extension or adjunct) is what's needed here.

Sweet, that sounds like a good start. Thanks for the info, all!!

Ok, when I try to renumber adjuncts in the 7300 range it will not accept the numbers, just stays on the "Enter old Adjunct" screen. Any other ideas on adjunct ranges i might try?

When I left on Friday I was doing a "Print All." I'll check it tomorrow, probably. Hopefully it's done by now. [hourglass]

So I take it that last part of the list is the adjuncts. I have tried renumbering one of them, 482 for example to 819, one of the lost extensions/DID's. The call to the DID still goes to the auto attendant. What did I do wrong there? I tried using the other two columns of numbers (ID #:183 282, for example) but it would only accept 482 as an adjunct number, so that is where I assume the adjunct number lies.

You could try something different here. It looks like by your comments you need 11 DID's to work....temporarily. Instead of using adjuncts use some of the call groups. According to your dialplan most of them are default numbers. Start with say 780 and renumber the calling group to one of your missing DID's. Then overflow this group to the voice mail call group. It is not labeled but normally this is 770. Do you know the call group for your voice mail? This should work for you. You would be using 780 through 790 but it will be okay. lg

Looks like your system started its life with a 3-digit dial plan, instead of "Setup Space". This means that your adjuncts are 300 through 499, instad of 7300 through 7499.

So, System Renumber> Adjuncts> 300> Enter> DID number that you want to go to voice mail> Enter

And Extensions> More> Group Coverage> 30> Enter> DID number that you want to go to voice mail> Enter

OK, I'll look at both options in the morning. Yes, 770 is the VM call group. Another yes, it is a 3 digit dial plan.

When you say "System Renumber> Adjuncts> 300> Enter> DID number" you do mean the extension associated with the DID, right, not the entire DID?

I am willing to try this both ways, whichever I can get to work. We are supposed to be up on IPOffice no later than two weeks from now, but these folks want their VM...and the overflow is going to the receptionist, which got my tail chewed today. [noevil]

Thank You ALL once again for the excellent info!! Once I knew "where" the adjuncts were, it was a piece of cake. Only took 15 minnutes in WinSPM, and might have been less if I had not gone out and checked the first two I did. After being sure I was on the right track, it took no time at all! Second time in seven days you have saved my bacon!!

[2thumbsup] You guys Rule!! I have given you all rep points!
