Hello, I am having a pri brought in to a magix switch and it is being provisioned with DID. The current numbering is in the 200 - 300 range. The DID's are in the 3340-3389 range. What are my best options for an easy transition. They also have VM. DID's are new to me, I have been told a couple of option's I would love the opinions of this boards experts..

Thanks in Advance..

Are the did's coming over copper lines a T1 or a PRI? Can you change the extension numbers to match your DID range? If so, have telco just send 3 digits and change the extensions to match the last 3 digits of the DID range.

They are over a pri. Do i have to change the extensions? Can I create ghost's using adjuncts?

thanks
Ron k,

no you can't. It is actually very easy to change the extension numbers. You might even consider going to 4 digit extension numbers. Might be easier for the customer to learn.

Renumber your extensions, it will be easier on you and your customer in the long run. Remember to create new mailboxs and remove the old ones. Also remember, not everyone NEEDS a DID number.

Certainly you can renumber your extensions.

However, that means you must now create new MAIL BOXES for everyone.

Since it is PRI, you can massage the incoming digits to point to the existing extensions. (NO VM REPROGRAMMING !)

Let me know which path you care to choose, and I will give you some short cuts to make this happen.

Merlinman, I would love to do as little as possible, just like everyone else. However, I would like the transition to be easy for the customer. Any advice would be appreciated. My customers dial plan/ ext listing is a 4 digit plan renumbered to start @ 200- 298. My DID numbers are 3340-3389. Other numbers with no sequnce have to be routed to fax and credit card readers also, ie. 0379,0325,9119,4025.... Any thoughts there.

Thank you

Ron K.

Ron,

You say, "Current numbering in the 200 - 300 range.... with the DID's ....in the 3340-3389 range.

OK, that's a good place to start.

However, we need to know the EXACT RANGE of the CURRENT EXTENSIONS.

Are they 200, 201, 202, up to 3xx or 240, 241, 242, or WHAT?

You can (With Legend/Magix PRI)take a D-I-D (PRI, sending 4 digits) of say 3340 and point it to 200, and then take 3341, and point it to 201, and, and, and.... but that is not what Mister Spock (of Star Trek fame) would say is logical.

It doesn't have to be logical, but it makes more sense to the end users and their clients if it is.

SO, how do you want this to come to pass.

Should we change extension 200 to 340, or should we point 340 to extension 200? BUT DO YOU REALLY WANT TO DO THAT????

Again, not much sense can be made of this for those of us who like to see MATCHING NUMBERS ... (My D-I-D is 3340, but my Extension is 200, DUH???)

How does your client want this to work (LOGICAL, OR "DON'T CARE) - AND/OR - Can you negotiate a different set of D-I-D numbers from the vendor which will match your current dial plan? (That would be ideal, of course.)

This issue, I'm afraid, will not be solved in only one or two posts.......

ALSO, How will this impact things such as their BUSINESS CARDS? That is something to consider, for sure....

Please consider the points raised, and let us know......

Hi , I have a quick question regarding DID #
I have my DID # already assigned to my extensions.
How can I get or print the list of DID's assigneed to my extension. I just know few of them.
Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Are you asking what is the Telephone Service Provider sending?

If so, you gotta' ask them.

To see a list of extensions, do a "PRINT DIAL PLAN".

I am reading these posts and I have the same scenario as rmtech. We would like to be able to point a DID to an extension without the numbers matching (sorry Mr. Spock) as our numbers are not available through the phone company. We have a PRI and we use 4 digit extensions (which we do not wish to renumber). We have a range of extensions (incuding two consoles) of 2100 through 2299 (omitting 2100 and 2200 for the consoles), no all of which are presently used but we do anticipate using more in the near future. We are buying 80 DID's but do not wish to assign them all at once. I am not sure where to go in programming to set this up. Any help is appreciated. TIA.

Sue,
Do you know what range of numbers that you are going to get from the CO? How many digits are they sending to you? Depending upon what range of numbers you are getting from the CO may determine if you are able to keep the current range of extension numbers. If the numbers that you are getting are SIMILAR to the extension range that you currently have, then you can do pattern manipulation in your PRI programming. Here is what I mean by "SIMILAR".
Lets say that the range of numbers that you are getting from the CO is 3100-3179. This range(or any other lead number.....ie: x100-x179) will allow you to keep your current extension numbers because you can strip the 3 and insert a 2 and Spock is then sleeping peacefully. However if your range is something obscure, like 4250-4329, then you will run into some complications....if not immediately, then down the road. I noticed that you have a range of 200 extensions but you say that you are getting only 80 DID's. Do you know what extensions are going to need DID's?

I am waiting to hear from the CO as to the numbers that I will receive. We are ordering 80 DID's: 20 for a small company that is a subsidiary in our same building but on a different floor; 60 DID's for our main company. We are getting them now to allow for growth as the company is growing quickly and we wanted all of them have the same regional number. I think I found where I would add and delete digits on the DID's:
Sys Programming\Lines/Trunks\DID. Is this were I make the changes or is there a table somewhere? TIA for your help.

IF YOU ARE NOT GETTING PRI - TAKE NOTE OF THIS:

What ever you do, MAKE SURE they do not send ZERO or 9 as the first number in your D-I-D's.

That is, if you are getting a D-I-D of 352-0200 - MAKE SURE you only receive 3 digits from them.

YOU CAN NOT USE A 9 or a ZERO as the first digit received UNLESS you have PRI.

(If you do have PRI, and receive the 9 or Zero first, you still may have to have a NON-CORRESPONDIG D-I-D Number.)

Ideally, your EXTENSION would be the LAST few digits of the Number Dialed.

Sue,
You are close. It's:

Sys. Prog.
Lines/Trunks
PRI
Dial Plan Routing
Service...."0"(enter).....Misc....."any service"(enter)

Total digits...."0"(enter) and put in the number of digits that the CO is sending you...lets say "4" for this example.

Delete digits...."0"(enter)......"1"(this deletes the leading digit that the CO is sending in the string of digits.

Add Digits...."0"(enter).....and this is where you insert the digit to match your dial plan. So for example in that post I put up for you yesterday, the numbers being sent to you are 3100-3179, then you would want to "strip" the leading digit...."3" in this case and insert("add Digits") a 2 so that the DID will then match your extension range. If this is set up properly, here is what will happen:
I dial 555-3179 and it rings at extension 2179. Hope this helps and by the way, this is just a single example...there are more ways to do digit manipulation, but this is most relative to what you are trying to accomplish.

One more thing.....be aware of how you number your extensions internally, so you don't run out of your DID's. If the CO is sending 3100-3179, then be sure to number the extensions that you are SURE need to be a DID in the 2100-2179 range and use non-DID extensions for ie: kitchen phone, conference room, waiting area, etc., use 2180 and above. That way you will use your 80 DID's most efficiently.

In my past expierence, having DID numbers that do not corresponde with extension numbers has been a worse problem than renumbering extensions and voice mail boxes. I work on other systems like Nortel and NEC. They let you take any incoming DID and send it to any extension. Even though we have set up several like this, we ultimately end up reprogramming the switch so the numbers all match. Like merlinman and Fonedude66 said, you can do it on a Legend/magix, but only if the numbers are similar. You could not recieve the digits 1000 and send them to 3245. Whenever I have a Legend customer that is getting new DID numbers, I tell them to tell their provider they can only accept digit ranges from 1000-5999. Although this is not true, you would be suprised at the cooperation we get from the providers when we tell them if we can't have these numbers, then the customer probably won't get the DID service. Getting numbers in that range makes it a piece of cake. Getting numbers in other ranges just requires more programming, but still can be done. Remember the KISS format in times like these.

Thanks to all of you for all the help. We are getting 5501 through 5560 for our DID's; our extensions are 2201 through 2299. We do not anticipate needing more than 60 DID's. If I have any problems I will be back. It will be a couple of weeks before we actually have them. Thanks again.

Sue

Sue,

You could easily set your extensions to be 501 or 5501,
then your business cards would match.

(If you care about that sort of stuff.)

Thanks for all of your help. It is about to be practised. We get our DID's on Monday. I have another question. The DID's are apparently turned for all of the extensions that correspond (whichever way I renumber). Is there any way to block incoming DID's at a particular extension so that only certain people will have DID's? Unless I renumber only those extensions that I want to have DID's all extensions will have DID's. TIA for any suggestions. Also is there anywhere I can get my hands on either the Merlin Magix course books and/or service manuals? The more hands on I am the happier I am. Thanks again.
