I need to replace a 100R/U with a 100DCD board in a Magix. Is this a plug-in replacement or do I need to remove and replace the programming on this slot? The board is PRI, in the last slot in the switch. After a board renumber, will programming need to be restored or just power off/on? I can't do this onsite- it's 1000 mi.away- so I'm trying to be sure the tech who goes onsite has what he needs. Thanks!

Well, they are somewhat different modules. The 100DCD is a DS1 module with a built in CSU, that can be bypassed. The 100R module, aka INA (Integrated Network Access) is both a DS1 module and Data Network Router. So they are NOT directly substitutable! If the client is using the Router function, then you can't swap them! You would need another 100R module. You will need to review all the documentation as to what you can/can't do. All the documentation is available from support.avaya.com for the download.

It is a good idea to make a print of the configuration and review all settings ahead of time. This way you may avoid gotchas!

Thanks Syquest! We discovered enough info to go forward
semi-fearlessly. It appears the INA has its own processor and flash memory and this one is not used for data- the customer sent us a picture and there is no cable plugged in the Ethernet port. The serial port of the INA is cabled to the Magix admin port as it should be for the pass-through programming access.

If you're not using the router function they're basically interchangable; you can either activate the built in 3160 paradyne DSU/CSU, or you can use an external one. No addittional DS1 programming is necessary.

Didn't Avaya issue some sort of bulletin advising people to disable the internal CSU on the 100 DCD and install an external CSU [ponder]

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Yes, they did a while ago, but I believe that was only for the Magix 100DS1 module. See QPPCN: 1346B Supplement 3 for the detail. Although, there may have been one for the 100R/U too.

I forgot to write the rest of the story on this INA board
replacement-sorry. The tech went out and swapped the board- removed INA and installed 100DCD. He did a board renumber and the system came up with no problems. Thankfully there was no drop/insert routing going on. If there was we would
have followed the QPPCN ,since the object was to get rid of the INA board. That would entail much more head-scratching!
I didn't know of the CN until now. Thanks Dexman, Syquest
and Merlin 101.
