Madge/Teleos Model 60 won't communicate with LMC PC

Hi All,

I recently acquired a Madge Networks/Teleos Model 60 ISDN switch, together with its software and manuals, which I'm trying to set up.
So far I have not been able to make the switch communicate with the LMC software on the PC.

The switch, when powered up, appears to go through POS OK (according to what the manual describes anyway), at the end of which all LEDs on the INP4 are off and the Test LEDs on other 2 cards blink periodically.

The switch has Release 13v2.1 Version 21.11.1.22 firmware loaded. (Just to be sure I reloaded the firmware using SoftLoad 6.4.1.9, which took some trial and error but appeared to succeed in the end)

The LMC/NMC software is R5.3 Version 20.10.2.2 installed on a Windows 98 running under VMware on XP. (This software will not run directly on XP , even under emulation)
The DB9-RJ45 serial cable pin connections are accurate according to the LMC manuals. The system is set to run on com1:9600,n,8,1

I have defined the HUB on the LMC equipment list using the system configuration diskette. Once the LMC program has started, I just can't get a connection to the HUB. The "Alarms" window constantly displays "Link Down - Init" and nothing else. On the other hand under the CallView window I get "Connected Local" and I can issue the "Control - I" etc. management commands and interact with the switch.

I have enabled debug level 3 under nmc.ini and here are two lines that repeat a lot:

10/10/96 17:58:28 MSInf: AdMain--Packet from IAP in STATE_Q: 38
00 ff 09 09 00 04 00 ff 00 ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
ff ff 08 d0 fe ff 02 42 fe 7f 5f 70 00 ff ff ff
ff ff ff ff ff ff

10/10/96 17:58:28 MSInf: RS232Send--WriteComm: 5
02 00 00 00 02

With occasional

10/10/96 18:02:32 MSWrn: RS232Scan--CommScan Warning : 12
02 02 0c 00 00 00 b0 00 00 00 00 00

None of the manuals I have contain any useful serial connection trouble shooting info.
Could there be a hardware problem with the switch?
Could the fact that I'm running LMC under VMware 1.0.1 be causing timing issues?

I do not know where to look from here. If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be extremely grateful.

Kind regards
Nicolas

Hello,

I acquired a Madge Networks/Teleos Model 60 ISDN switch, but I have not software for set up. Could you send me one CD with all software? Both can try find the key for set up this machine.

Please, let me know,
Thanks
David

Go to your "AccessWare NMC Fault Management" window and look down where it says CONSOLE STATUS. It is either going to say LINK UP in green or LINK DOWN in red. That will tell you if you have a proper connection via serial or not.

Hello Nicolas,

Could you find a solution for your problem? I have the same problem: the Test LEDs on all cards blink periodically. Please, let me know.

Thanks in advance,
David

Hi nipester,
I get "Link down - Init" but I know my serial connection is OK because under the CallView window I get "Connected Local" and I can issue the "Control - I" etc. management commands to view the low level menu and send the switch various commands like board reset. I strongly suspect the problem is to do with timing becuase I'm forced to use the NMC software in a VMWare guest Windows 98 OS, as I don't have access to a native W98 machine.

Thanks

Hi David,
I'm afraid I haven't come any closer to a solution, have you had any luck? I also posted in a forum dedicated to video conferencing, which I think madge 60 was most commonly used for, and was offered a newer version of the software. The forum is vtctalk.com it's also possible to private message there.
Thanks
Nicolas

Hi,
I new to this forum.
I have a Madge / Intia 60 and a Madge / Initia 20.
I have the configuration software. The console cable is NOT a standard 'like Cisco' pinout.
I'm looking for some other config's for a Madge 20, phone number etc.
Thanks
Kyle
