Can Macromedia Lingo call up Microsoft Word docs or ppt and pdf docs. I am using version 7 now, do I need version 8 or can I achieve this in 7?

I'm using 8 right now, and linking up to .doc or .text is one of the first things I tried to do. Unfortunately director automatically files them internally. I know there has to be a way to do it (perhaps with html or something), but I haven't gotten around to trying hard enough. As far as pdfs are concerned, I can't remember if 8 can do it or not because I don't really use pdf files for anything. Hope I've given you a new thought or two to a work-a-round.

Good luck,

Jonathan

You need the program asociated with the extension of your file to open it. I had the same problem, but I converted them to html, and called them with

on mouseup
goToNetPage "myFfile.htm", "_new"
end

and everything is fine....

Hi

I dont know if you have heard about PDF Xtra...

Go to this page:

There you can get an Xtra that allows you to view PDF files.

About the DOC and TXT i didnt find any way to display them, wich doesn't mean that isnt possible to do. Hope you find what you are looking for.

P.S: The PDF Xtra will display a message once you open the file. It will say that that Xtra is not registered. If by any chance you download that Xtra and after you register it please send me a copy of your registered PDF Xtra.

:)

This is what i did for a cd project
1.put word docs in a folder.
2.download microsoft word97 viewer
3.use winzip to extract contents of the cab file
4.place these files on CD
5. use lingo to open the files. e.g. open "test, doc" with "wordview.exe"

this enables you to atleast have word docs on your cd project. You can do the same with a pdf viewer for pdf's

hope this helps...
