i have a user that is getting the following error message when they open word 2003
The document contains macros.Macro language support for this application is disabled. Features requiring VBA are not available. Would you like to open this document read - only?
I just installed word 2003 as that all they needed. I have this same setup on 40 other pc and they have no issues. Is there an update or something that can fix this.

The document being opened contains macros and the user security setting (the default) is to not allow macros. The issue will only show up when a macro tries to run so this particular document must have an auto macro running (or trying to run) on open.

Go to Tools > Macro > Security and adjust the setting to medium (if you're happy to do so).

Enjoy,
Tony

See i think that were this is all messed up. I tried running the macro security at low and i was still getting the message.
it also happens when you open word not just a doc. So it seems like somthing in the startup or something. But i cant seem to find anything

You shouldn't run with security low - but equally you shouldn't get this message. If you get it when you open Word you have auto macros in Normal or some AddIn which loads automatically.

On the Trusted Publishers tab (in the Security Dialog), is "Trust All installed Addins" checked?

Enjoy,
Tony

Yes it is check. I was only running it on low to see if that would get ride of the message. but it didnt so i change it back to med.sould this have something to do with VBA itself? if so how could i reinstall the VBA. i check under the add/remove and click on change for office 2003 and i didnt see an option any where for VBA.

Do you have VBA installed? Check via Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs > Microsoft Office > Change > Add / Remove Features > Advanced Customization. VBA is under Office Shared Features.

Enjoy,
Tony
