Hello,

I have upgraded to Macola Progression version 7.7.100, I have a couple of questions. (I am running on SQL 2005)

What are my development options? I have a couple scripts that perform update and insert queries on tables, they are old ERS 4.0 scripts.

My questions are:

1) Can I safely import those scripts into ERS 5.0 and update them to run on Version 7.7.100?

2) Do I need Flexibility? Does my version in face come with it or do I need to purchase it?

3) Can I use Visual Studio?

4) Can I use C, C++ or anything other than VB?

Thanks very much in advance.

Ivan

ERS is no longer supported but it should work. If you do not already own Flex you will need to buy it. There is no version that comes with Flexibility.

It is unclear what you are asking. Of course any program can modify Macola data, you do not need to own Flexibility to do this.

What exactly are you doing? What version did you upgrade from?

Hi DGillz,

Thanks for your response. I upgraded from waaaaaay back at version 7.5.103e Btrieve to 7.7.100 MS SQL 2005.

I actually have a couple ERS 4.0 scripts that update some tables, namely OE stuff.

I have successfully connected via ERS 5.0 and it has brought the script up to date VBA wise, and am working on cleaning up the syntactical (sic) issues.

It seems to look good and I'm satisfied that the script is intact by the looks of it.

I think I will likely pursue your suggestion of purchasing Flexibility, but in the meantime I will test using ERS 5 or Visual Studio.

Thanks very much for your help.

Regards,

Ivan

Make sure you get the right price. If you own ERS, the price for Flex is 40% of list.

Hello,

Don it's funny, as a long time and heavy user of ERS5 I have been told for years that it is no longer supported, however it was upgraded with the release of 7.7 and Macola are still using it to front end the "New" Crystal Reports.

Andrew,

I agree exact still uses it, and it is unsupported by exact. I personally never used it, I embraced Flexibility a long time ago. There is nothing ERS can do that can't be accomplished a lot more effectively with Flex, VB, Event Manager and/or Crystal.
