What is the process for performing a Client Reinstall (on a machine which already has the client installed) for Macola 7.6.400a?

I have found that if I browse to the M:\macsql\install folder and run setup.exe I get a message saying that it is running a Quick Update from 7.6.400 to 7.6.400a.

I actually want the client reinstalled over the top of the existing client but it appears that I can no longer do this with this version?

Thanks in advance.

You did it right. What is it you are attempting to accomplish? Why did you decide to reinstall the client in the first place?

Thank you for your response.

I recently performed an upgrade at one of our sites - 7.6.300c to 7.6.400a

It all went well with the following exceptions - After performing the upgrade we noticed that Visual Menu Builder would no longer function in the new client. We would get the hour glass and then nothing. Also Flexibility would report a VBA error and not function either.

It was at this point that I remembered that the version of VBACONN.EXE that is installed with 7.6.400 spA is the incorrect version (It installs Version 7.300.0.1 over the top of 7.0.0.4 as installed by 7.6.400).

I copied the VBACONN.EXE 7.0.0.4 from our one of our other sites and copied over the incorrect version in M:\macsql and performed a client install on a PC which had NO previous client whatsoever. Now both Visual Menu Builder and Flexibility work on this new client PC.

I now wish to reinstall the complete 7.6.400a client on the other machines (i.e. install the client over the top of the existing client) but all it just seems to do is perform the minor update from 7.6.400 to 7.6.400a and whilst Flex now appears to work Visual Menu Builder still does not function on these clients. (MS SQL client network utility is installed and configured on all clients).

Did you also upgrade to SQL 2005? There is a known issue with SQL 2005 and VMB.

Also, VMB, like all the visual tools in Macola, requires the full SQL client, not just the SQL network connectivity.

Actually there is a hot topic download on this:

HT-15513684 - Visual Tools
[red]It was found that after the "Installation" of Progression 7.6.400 that some, not all Visual Tool executable files did not populate to the \MACSQL folder. This Hot Topic also applies if you have updated to 7.6.400 service pack "A". This Hot Topic does not apply if the Progression version was an "update" to 7.6.400.[/red]

So maybe this is your problem?

Thanks dgillz - I have downloaded the hot topic and will apply at my remote site once they are finished with progression for the day. I'll update this thread and let you know how it went.

I ran the "HT-15513684 - Visual Tools" executable at the remote site, but unfortunately Visual Menu Builder is still not functioning.

Is the full SQL client installed, or just client connectivity?

You will need the full SQL tools, as was always the case with VMB.

I believe it is the full SQL client - I'll tell you what I usually do to install the SQL client.

1. Run SQL server 2000 setup on client machine.
2. Select "Install SQL server or install client tools"
3. Select install client tools (I don't select the client connectivity option)
4. Leave all default selections selected (including EM & Query Analyser).
5. After install reboot and select SQL client network utility.
6. Create a Server Alias using the Named Pipes network Library.

(IMHO it doesn't seem to be a SQL connectivity issue - I don't even get the SQL SA Login Dialogue when selecting Visual Menu Builder - all I get is an hourglass and then nothing. If it was an SQL connectivity issue I'd expect the connection to the server to fail when running the SQL SA Login Dialogue - but I don't get that far)

What is the version of vmenu32.exe? This is in your Macola root directory.

Something else to try: Rename the vmenu32.exe in the Macola root directory to vmenu32.old. Then, rename vmenu32.vb6 to vmenu32.exe.

Don thanks, I read that on the Macola customer portal.
Was ready to give it a go last week.

Only problem is that neither this installation (Australia) nor our installation in China, nor our installation in Mexico has a Vmenu.vb6 file ANYWHERE on the drive let alone the Macapps folder and subfolders.

This (hourglass) problem can also occur if the user logged into Macola does not have sufficient rights to the SQL database. The user needs to have the roles of public and db_owner.

Vmenu32.exe version at all three 7.6.400a sites is identical - 76.400.0.94

Was logged into Macola as SUPERVISOR and can confirm that roles are set to public and db_owner

I just rechecked - Yes, public and db_owner roles assigned to the SCREENS database for SUPERVISOR_SQL.

Using query analyzer, can you perform a select query on the syspass_sql table in the screens database?

Let me check Don and get back to you.
(I'm due in a meeting soon)
Thanks for your help - much appreciated.

If I go into Enterprise Manager and browse to the SCREENS database and select Tables then scroll to the SYSPASS_SQL table, right click and select Open Table -> Query and run
SELECT *
FROM [dbo].[SYSPASS_SQL]

It works fine.
