I really don't know what to do here, cos I use my wee mac so much I can't bear to be without it.

This issues still happens occasionally (thread603-1297078), and recently the wee little clips that hold the lid shut no longer hold the lid shut. they pop out, and the lid shuts for a few seconds and then just pops open on its own. this doesn't matter at home, but when I'm travelling around I'd use this lid closing routine to put Maccy to sleep. Now she wakes up on her own and then runs her battery down.

What should I do? And if the answer is that she needs to go to Mac-Hospital - can someone point be to instructions back-up properly??
Thanks guys.

Oh, MacBookPro 15", 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo, 1GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRam running OSX 10.4.8 if that makes a difference...

Buy a nylon strap with some velcro and strap it closed?

The lid could have become twisted or misaligned - does it look even when you close it?

It's also possible that there is just some gunk in the latching mechanism keeping it from latching all the way. Some gentle cleaning might help.

If this is was my only issue, I don't think I'd be sending it in for maintenance, but that's probably just me.

If it's under warranty, I'd have it checked. If there's an Apple stoire near you, you can bring it to them to look at.

If it's not under warranty, check Apple's support site to see if there is anthing referring to your machine. Apple's pretty good about extending warranties with a seies of machines with a known problem.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Thanks guys - I'll check the support site first, as taking to a store involves a trip into London..

UPDATE: My wee Pippy (15" MBP) has gone to the Cancom Mac Hospital to be checked over.

They said that they would ring later today to tell me what was likely to happen. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

UPDATE:

My mac has had a new logic board and a new bottom case fitted.

Now if only they had not messup up the speakers and the network port all would be lovely.... so back again it goes!

Did they say what the problem was, and why did they have to swap the logic board?

Apparently the garbled video is a video-hardware fault and as its on-board it needed a new MLB installing. I gather it happened on a fair few of these.

They didn't describe it in too mcuh detail though - they said "Oh, funny video when you wake it eh... that'll be a new MLB then" so I guess they've seen a few.

I have had success backing up to External FW (should work too with USB2) drive for my MacBookPro 15" CoreDuo.

Make sure you partition with Drive Utility (click option...) in GUID format to make it bootable on IntelMacs.

SuperDuper! was able to back it up and make the backup bootable. Make sure you test the bootup before you assume you have a bootable backup. I did the identical procedure with a MacBook and it did not boot up. Go figure!

The new CarbonCopyCloner 3 beta should be worth trying too.

If you have a Bootcamp partition, good luck trying to make a backup that will restore and boot into WindowsXP.

That may be one argument for using Parallels vs Bootcamp.

So, new Main Logic Board fitted, and the problem is still there!

Apple suggest that next they should replace the cable between the board and the display. The service centre have a two week waiting list at the moment.

So, I'll wait and take it back again.

Watch this space....

Always spend the money on the Apple Care Protection Program. It is the best insurance you can get!

Seriously. I do not believe I have a Apple Laptop in my shop that hasn't gone back for repairs.
