After intalling some RAM, I've lost all sound on my beige G3 - not even a startup chime. In the sound control panel the selection options for Input and Output are missing, and alerts don't work. What's going on here?

Well ...

Assuming that the sound works again when you remove the memory, I would say a conflict.

Prove it: by removing the memory.

Solve it: by trying the memory in different slots/arrangements. Send the memory back to the vendor for a refund.

Sorry I can't be more positive

What are your original and new memory configurations?

Thanks. I have reinstalled the old memory (1x 128Mb, 2x32Mb all PC64DIMMS) - still no dice though. I've had some startup problems since this too, and can't boot from a CD - stops when the startup ribbon has gone about 1cm (I was going to re-install OS9.0).
