I totally new to the mac world ..but here's the issue I have a client who has a few mac runing mac os 10...he needs a file server due to the large amount of space on the graphics files the question is should I use a windows File Server (2000 or 2003) or if possible to use Linux if yes wich version...Thankz for the help

OSX employs Samba as one of the types of file sharing. Linux could do the same.

My group is on a microsoft server and it is nothing but trouble. I swear microsoft went out of there way to cause problems for Apple users. I would use Linux, everyone I have talked to says use Linux, but no one bothered to ask me. Now I am screwed. I would go with Linux.

Thanks 429v8

I will go with Linux Red Hat 9 (or) Fedora Core.. Or Should I used Red Hat Enterprise

429v8 shouldn't necessarily influence you. I've had lots of Apple users working fine to Windows servers for many years. No problems at all.

Walk in the park to configure and very stable.

Are we purposefully ignoring OSX Server?

I have an NT server and an Xserve running OSX Server.
While the Xserve is much nicer than the NT server there are no real problems connecting the macs to the NT server.

Though I am a fan of Linux over Windows, I have in the past used a Linux based server in a Mac environment and found that some files (particularly Quark Xpress documents) got irreparibly damaged.
If I remember correctly the linux server was splitting the files into 2 parts. Something to do with resource forks I think. In the end I switched it over to running NT4 and never had another problem with it.
