Hello All,

I have never touched a Mac in my life. I have worked with PC's since the mid 80's though. I have a customer who wants to attach his Mac so he can share files with some PC's. I have been wanting to play with a Mac so this is my chance.

If possible I would like a detailed example on how to attach to a Microsoft share. (I need it detailed since I have never touched a Mac as explained above.) He just got the Mac so I would think it has OS 10 on it.

I am looking forward to this. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Access the 'Go' menu at the top of the screen and then 'Connect to server'. If the Mac does not immediately populate a list of IP addresses/available shares, simply type in the IP address of the Windows computer that is sharing.

Mac's come with help just like Windows' F1. There may be a fuller explanation in the help section but connecting Macs to Windows has become a 'no-brainer'.

Why is everyone in this forum responding to me as picklefish?

Thanks. I will take a look at it.

If he wants to share his files with a PC, he's got to go to System Preferences->Sharing and choose "Turn PC Sharing On." Then on your PC, you usually have to add the computer as a network place, (the mac will tell you what address to enter). Sometimes it's fickle and will take a little while for the PC to recognize the new file server. It will also ask for username/password of the user that you're trying to connect to.

Thanks all. I went to the GO menu and used connect to server. I had to use smb and the IP since it would not just see the computers. It then asked for the user name, password and gave me a choice of the shares. It worked great but I do have another question.

When the system reboots is there a way to have it auto connect? I would imagine it would disconnect when you reboot.
