Hello,

I hooked up a mac monitor to a pc. nothing but a black screen. I notice the connectors are different sizes. Can a mac monitor work with a pc? This monitor may be dead. I get a green power light but nothing happens on the screen. Obviously I don't own a mac system so I can't test it on that.

Just wondering.

thanks,
PTT :)

Depending on how old the mac monitor is, you'll need a different connector. If it is one of the older MAC 14 or 15" screens from like early 1990's odds are you'll need a converter to go TO a standard VGA or SVGA (PC) computer. IF its a new MAC monitor, with a DVI or Apple Digital Video connector, they have converters for those too.

If its got Apple Digital Video or the older connector, you cannot ever plug it directly into a PC without a converter. If you're lucky and the monitor is DVI, then if you're PC's video card has DVI out, you're in luck, just plug it in.
I hope this is helpful.

OK, it's late so I'll respond to this one just for the hell of it. A PC's VGA connector is a 15 pin high density connector (small). A Mac's 15 pin connector is a low density (large) connector. If you managed to "I hooked up a mac monitor to a pc" and confirmed what I just stated above "I notice the connectors are different sizes" then you've trashed (via brute force) the pins on the monitor lead. Re-align the pins and get a converter as per "mateo107"'s instructions above. Basically, yes, a PC can drive a Mac monitor.

Good Luck.
