MAC InDesign 2.0 to InDesign CS for PC 2

I work on OS X using InDesign 2.0. A client of mine wants to buy the PC InDesign CS version so I can create his files and he can make slight text or graphic edits. I realize that fonts are going to be an issue, but is he going to have any problem opening/editing/saving my files and vice versa?

Newer versions of InDesign will have no trouble opening older version documents. You will not be able to open any edits that the client makes on his newer software.

I have an Indesign CS 3.0 document made with a MAC (OS 10 Tiger) and want to open it on a PC that has the same ID version (for pc, of course). But it does not recognize the doc so it cannot be opened. Any ideas on how to do that? Thanks a lot. Herman

When saving on a Mac the file extension must always be entered, otherwise a PC won't be able to handle the file.

Hi there
Wonder if anywone can help me...
I created a 96 page publication in Indesign 2.0 on PC (Approx size 350MB). I then tried to create a PDF pre-press CMYK file and this only produced upto P64. the remaining pages were thenm blank...yet the document had graphics and contents on it...

I investigated all the possibilities, even deleting pages 1-70, then file save as something else, then producing the PDF.... but no joy.. think the offending page was P64...

OK.. After all the exhaustion of trying different things, I then installed Indesign CS2.0. Well this time, When I tried accessing the indesign document, using file open, the error message comes up saying , that the file was edited in a pre-release of Indeign and there I am unable to open it...

Anyone got a clue what I need to do in terms of loading any plugins etc?

Any light on this appreciated.

hi Nindy,

the pre-release version means that the IndDesign wasn't legal one. You will have to recreate it, but this time with a legal InDesign version.

Unfortunately I still cant beleive this... because
my local charity called Shishukunj, have bought a legal copy, as I loaded that myself from CDS...Would I need to go to Adobe and ask why this has happend? I found the CS2 version whilst rummaging through the cupboards.

There is no history of InDesign alerting anyone to a pre-release document falsely. If you truly purchased a legal copy of InDesign, then you should most definitely contact Adobe.

Just because one pays for software does not indicate that they are purchasing legitimate retail software. If not purchased from the source or authorized dealer, there is a chance that the software may be pirated. There have been plenty of folks that sold pre-release InDesign software illicitly.

Its a shame...I have started to do this publication from scratch in Legal copy of CS2 now...
and I have got the product activated online with adobe.

I have done a sample 196 page magazine import of the document from Pagemaker 6.5, then generated a PDF press quality CMYK document and all seems to be fine.

So as per yours and Carlows suggestion, it is very important that we use "proper" copies from adobe themselves directly.
