I have a site using an old Norstar switch.
Connected to this switch are the M7310 phones.
Anyone know of a newer model that will work.

Switch is still strong.... but the phones on everyone's desk needs a facelift.

Any suggestions?

Hi everyone,

I have a DR1 switch with original 1988 software with T7316 phones running on it. Only thing that doesn't work is the MWI light with the Centrex voice mail attached to this system. I have a CLID M8 module attached that does show a feature key LCD arrow for Centrex/pots line voice mail MWI.

Oh and I should mention this 1988 phone system uses VoIP lines for its CO connections. I installed a Cisco PAP analog terminal adapter to run VoIP into this systems 66block CO connections and it works flawlessly. :)

Is that similar to -WE all use Elan. Everyone may not know this and since this is a forum for info, we should welcome it. Have another star Gordon:)

Yes Curly I know and thank you as usual for pointing out my ignorance.

He didn't know that he could use the newer phones on his system so I am simply clarifying that it works. I know you can use any VOIP line on an any analog phone, but what most people don't seem to realize is that you can tap that VOIP line into your analog CO lines on any older phone system.

Thanks atdjr123,

So many people are ripping and replacing Norstar systems now because they "look" outdated or they have the belief that you can't take advantage of low cost VOIP rates with a Pure IP PBX.

In this day of "green" technology and trying to save money, why rip out a Norstar system to replace with Cisco or Shoretel when you can leverage your existing product, but simply buying new T series phones. You save training costs and infrastructure costs. Once the economy picks up and hopefully it does a few years down the road, then may be the time to think about upgrading to a Pure IP PBX.

It's obvious the support entity directly from Nortel is gone, but many channel partners still service Norstar, and they will continue to as long as products and parts are readily available.

Sorry for my ignorance too , I get frustrated when we go on about things not related.
User asked about phone models.... nothing to do with trunks or voip.

I sometimes ask for version, a reply with correct info would then follow by one of us.
Straight to the point.

Time I retire from here anyway.

I stand corrected Curly, you did say Most of us.. However, I received no help w/ that issue but you have been very helpful w/ others and I appreciate that. As for retiring well, your wealth of knowledge would be greatly missed and who could replace that IN YOUR FACE approach of yours. LOL
