I heard a while back that nortel was going to allow the M3000 series phones to move from digital to VoIP at some point. AKA these phones would be able to both depending on your network. I thought this was great because my company currently is runs digital but we are upgrading our software soon to allow us to migrate to the IP world. Does anyone know if Nortel is going to give the 3000 series the capability to upgrade to a VoIP phone?? I know there is a 8 pin on the back but I recently heard they changed there minds about this. Let me know what you all think.

last time i looked the I3000 series was voip and the tdm was still the 3000

I am speaking of the Nortel 3000 series. Like the 3902, 3903, 3904, 3905

I was wondering if that was what you meant, but I was confused about the 8 pin connector. That may be a newer feature, but none of my 3900's have an RJ45 jack (I did go check for sanity sake). I know that does not mean you can't do ethernet, but going non-standard on connections would be a BIG mistake.

As to your question about possibility, I could see that you could, since the phone has firmware on it, it could be possible. I have not personnaly heard anything about the IP evolution of the 3900's, and was always under the inpression the i2000 series was the IP phone going forward.

I did see some new i2004 phones recently that look almost identical to the 3900's, with a charcoal color (who users purple phones?)and an updated bezel that made them look like twins of the 3900.

Yeah I wouldnt go nonstardard. There isn't actually an ethernet jack. But if you look there are open spots in the back of the phone with pins already there that are not used. I just wondered if nortel had anything in mind for there...aka IP possiblities...its hard to tell.
