Hi --

I have a Nortel Meridian1 (Option 11) cabinet, and a number of dual-line display M2616 handsets. Management recently had Caller ID enabled on our incoming non-PRI lines, and I am tasked with getting caller ID to display on the handsets.

In the AX > Tools menu, I am running release 12.14.0.

I have checked previous threads here and have seen various references to CLID (albeit, it says CLID NO), and I have disabled the option to suppress caller ID within the Meridian Mail Voice Services Menu. From what I gather, my software release is at least aware of the Caller ID concept.

What must I do to enable Caller ID display on the M2616 handsets, and also have that report within voicemail? Also, I believe that our caller ID service will report both name and number.

Any help is appreciated!

caller id has almost nothing to do with mail..the switch tell the mail where the call came from if the switch knows.. clid is an outbound feature controlled by the switch OR your carrier.. if your getting inbound clid on a pri. and your display phones are set up right you'll see the calling number.. cls =

The difference here is that we're not on a PRI yet. We're still using a number of incoming analog/POTS lines. These lines are coming into two Universal Trunk cards (model: NT8D14BB). If we're not yet using a PRI, does this mean that the Meridian won't be able to interpret inbound caller ID?

I think the switch will only accept CLID via PRI or MF signalling on older DID trunks with a special patch. Not 100% sure about this though. Maybe John or another member can verify or correct my statement. Also, it is good to know if you are just using the POTS/combo trunks or are you using DID trunk service. Do most people have direct dial numbers? If they do, then it is likely you are using DID trunks. If not, then only the POTS/Combo trunks are in use. Also, a word on POTS, a loop start configuration, not a good idea on any PBX.

I'm not using DID at all. Nobody is direct dial, all extensions are programmed in the switch and accessible via auto-attendant, etc. I have 16 incoming POTS lines that are all ground start (aware of loop start being bad idea).

I've been looking at my opt 11 books, adn I see that there are ANI and ANIR packages that are included as part of the generic X11 loadset. Also wondering if I look here instead...
Thanks!

Need some input from another member that has experience with this. I have never had the need, but...reading up on the ANI feature set, it looks like it is not supported on your type of trunks.

FWIW -- I also did a LD 22 > ISS and I got this:

VERSIO 1411
RELEASE 20
ISSUE 22 +

all the books you'll every need.. i have never seen inbound calling line id on an analog trunk. i have only seen them work with a pri.. most users have found out that a pri is cheaper the 14 or more analog lines and much faster. i get ring back before i can get finger off the last key
