Hi there,

Can anyone plesae explain why on LTO tapes with the same size 100-200GB when Full netbackup shows different sizes,
e.g.

Media_id Size Status

000045 252914871 FULL/MPX
000091 364378557 FULL/MPX
000118 263259207 FULL/MPX
000163 287711152 FULL/MPX
000197 348104953 FULL/MPX

I was expecting to see Full Lto1 tapes showing exact same size.
Note these media id belong to same volume pool, same retention period, etc.

Please advise.

Thanks

This is normal. It is because hardware compression changes according to the data structure.

Just because the VERITAS documentation states a certain thing does not make it a fact and that is truth.

Bob is correct. Compression ratios will change dependent upon file types and sizes.

Also note, there are times where you will not see even 100GB on a tape due to a reverse compression of some files.
