Hi everyone,

I just got this new laptop running WinXP pro and it was working okay till this morning It gave me the following error:
lsass.exe system error
The specified Domain did not exist

Any help would be appreciated

Did you ever get an answer? I've encountered the very same problem today.

Do you have any anti-virus software installed? If so is it updated?

Go here and download MS spyware removal tool and run it:
lsass.exe is often a target of malware.

The laptop has mcafee and ms's spyware already installed. It is not possible to log onto the laptop...even in recovery mode.

I suspect the laptop was hit by a virus because when I ran startup in "last successful" option, it gave me an error message that the registry was corrupted. When I used the XP media to repair the laptop, it was not accepting the Laptops admin password. :-(

Seems like you have to get in to the Recovery Console and then try this -

An easy to follow recovery console description when unable to start computer due to corrupt registry.

This is a layman's version of Q307545 in simple language.

If you have an OEM Recovery CD you might not be able to use the Recovery Console but there is a slight chance you could use the 6 downloadable floppies and enter that way. Worth a try.
