I just ran DCPROMO on a Win2K3 SP1 box and everything seemed to go find except that I am getting the following warning on boot:

Event ID: 40960

The Security System detected an authentication error for the server ldap/test. The failure code from authentication protocol test1 was "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
(0xc000005e)".

Any ideas what this is or how to fix it?

The sound like a DNS issue here try this. Have you got DNS configured before or during dcpromo. NETLOGON can give this error, so make sure that DNS is up and running and intregrated to AD then see if the event clears if not, make NETLOGON depend on DNS. This can be done in the registry easily, just go to “\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon”, and add the string “DNS” to the key "DependOnService" (place it under LanmanServer).

Why wouldn't it depend on it by default if such a race condition occurs?
