I am unable to see any files using ls or ls -lo as any user including root.
for instance a file called fred01.log will not be shown with ls echo * will show the file and the file can be listed with cat, more etc. the file can be moved to a new name not containing the 01 and is then listed.
can anyone please explain this efect to me
with thanks
Dave

ls has so many options: try these
# ls -aCF
#ls -altr
when u use ls -aCF, all files will end *
and directories will end /
also it will show Aphabetical order and hidden files too
check for manpages for further info
thanks
