LPSTAT returns nothing!

All of a sudden today my users started complaining that their print jobs were not printing. I quickly checked the print queues with "lpstat" which to my surprised did not display a thing...took me right to the next prompt. I tried several times - even as root and no success. Even within SMIT the print queue definitions are listed, but not the queue status. I've rebooted the box several times with no success...even if a submit a new job with the lp command, I get no job ID #, just the prompt!

Any ideas?!?!? Even our main UNIX guy is at a loss!

Do you have a valid /etc/qconfig file ?

Can you list your [tt]/var/spool/lpd/qdir[/tt] permissions?

Hi Sejuras,

It mainly points to the permission of:

/usr/sbin/qdaemon
/usr/sbin/lpd

The owner:group should be rootrintq

Action 1) Check/change the above and see. If not ok,
Action 2) Change permission for the above to 6550. If still no ok,
Action 3) Follow the below procedure:
a. stop the print system
stopsrc -g spooler (stops qdaemon, writeserv, and lpd)
lssrc -g spooler (make sure all are inoperative)
b. clear out the directories
rm /var/spool/lpd/qdir/*
rm /var/spool/lpd/stat/*
rm /var/spool/lpd/pio/msg*
rm /var/spool/lpd/*
rm /var/spool/qdaemon/*
c. restart the print system
ps -ef |grep pio (make sure there are no processes running)
ps -ef |grep qd (make sure there are no processes here either)
startsrc -g spooler
================================================================
perform the actions mentioned above one by one and give ur feed back.
