I have several systems out there running on SCO Openserver 5.0.7 Many have remote print servers connected. All of which work and print fine. The problem is that you cannot cancel the job. When you type "cancel printer-id". This error appears, "LPD server cancel function not support", and the job is not cancelled. If anyone could provide any assistance. It would be definetly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

I believe that message originates from the lpd server itself and not from the SCO box. SCO is just echoing that it tryed to tell the remote box it wants to cancel the job, but it is ignored or denied.

Once you submit a job to a lpd printer, your local SCO box has little to do with it other than sending to the remote system to be spooled and printed there.

I have had more luck with finicky lpd servers by issuing a disable command first.

disable mylpdprinter
cancel mylpdprinter-14
enable mylpdprinter

I tried that but it did the same thing. Here is the exact syntax:
# lp -d hplaser /etc/hosts
request id is hplaser-22
# disable hplaser
printer "hplaser" now disabled
# cancel hplaser-22
(LPD Server):
Cancel Function Not Supported

Whelp.. that comes right from the remote system. It is telling you it flat out doesn't support job cancelations. You don't show if the remote server had already printed the job or not. I am assuming jobs are hanging somewhere and not printing and that is why you need to cancel them.

What _is_ the remote system? Is it a computer with a printer attached or is it a little print-server box. Either way, it might be configurable at the lpd server to accept or reject job cancelations.

If it is a print-server unit, make and model?

Basically it's a job that is still running and they need to stop it. It is on a print server. Like a Jetdirect.
