I recently met a new customer who had a Norstar CICS installed about 4 years ago and the only problem that they have is when making conference calls the have a very hard time hearing the third party. I have heard this from a couple of other customers. There are two customer on this CICS with 2 lines each. Each customer has a different carrier so I don' think it is a carrier issue. The trunks are on caller ID trunk cards. We havne't tried to switch the card out yet, and the customer doesn't remember if their old vendor had tried to replace the card. Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

This is not a solution but I have a customer using an 8x24 system who complains that the 2 parties he conferences can not hear each other about 80% of the time.

This is what I think is happening...

site A----(6db loss)------norstar------(6db loss)----site B

combine the 6 db loss on both trunks for a total of 12 db between sites A and B The norstar can communicate between sites without a problem
I don't think the norstar has any hardware to compensate for the loss between sites A and B
this is relativly common

Westcoaster is correct and there is liitle that can be done. However I have an idea which I have never tried. The NT7B75GA (Standard DS card) supports the programming prompts "LossPkg" under line programming. It is not supported on any other analog card. By adjusting the settings with these cards installed you may be able to get some improvement if this important to the customer. You will lose caller ID.

Like I say I have not tried it but it may be fun to try.

We run into this problem all the time....we have yet to find a fix. Also the same thing occurs when using outbound transfer. It is anytime you connect trunk to trunk. Nortel should have done something about this by now....

That is a good idea Rob, I will try that and see what happens.
