I am installing a camera system and the coax cable has the two power leads sistered to it that go back to a central power unit. We have a choice between 24vac or 24vdc for an output. Will either effect the catVe network if sharing a conduit or by being bundled together.
FYI it's a restaurant enviroment that is actually two old buildings joined together and I would like to utilize the conduit I used for the catV that connects the two.

If I had my choice I would use dc. It seems strange that you have a choice, I would think your camera would require one or the other. At the low current draw that you will probabnly have on that system either would probably work just fine and not cause any interference.

there is a camera system out there that uses cat5 to supply power and video all in the same cable...

My concern is feedback in the ethernet from the power on the cables. And I have a choice between ac and dc based cameras and I need to know if one is better than the other in this instance. I am aware of the cameras that dont use coax but have not looked into those yet. I understand they are a higher end camera.

Thanks,

When you run any low level voltage next to a data cable you run the chance of interferance. If it is a short run you should be OK, but long runs could cause you a problem.
I have always seen the cameras setup for 12 or 24 volts DC.
To help eliminate interferance you shold use shielded cable.

Good Luck!!

In my experience, most interference is caused by AC, not DC. And... if it's the type of cable I think you're talking about, it shouldn't be a problem.
