Loud Office environment - Sidetone Adjustment

I have an unruly branch that is threatening to throw their new system out the window. They are blaming the phone system for their quality issues, but whenever I call them it appears that there is a LOT of ambient noise coming from all around. They have 10 people who love to yell and scream a lot while on the phone.

Biggest complaint is dropoffs while talking to clients. I am wondering if the ambient noise is contributing to this. Any adjustments someone can suggest would be appreciated. Also, I have messed with the sidetone adjustment. There are pros and cons to lowering and raising it. What experiences have others had?

Also, how accurate are the QOS alarms in the system staus application. There are very few alarms in there so I was reluctant to chase the network yet. No packet loss in weeks.
 
This sounds like an issue that you need to be on site to investigate.

I'm thinking that adjusting the "AUDIOENV" variable might be my solution. Anyone adjusted that before?
 
We've recently upgraded to IP office - Avaya 9620 & 9630's, have similar problems with ambient noise and it turned out that the headsets that we previously used (Plantronics CS351) are incompatible with the new kit.
A good test of this was to have the other person hit the mute button on the headset and the noise levels dropped considerably - we bought some cheapo Jabra / Plantronics headsets and the problem went.
