I have been given the rather unpleasent task of sticking a Lotus Notes db into SQL Server.

Now I know absolutely nothing about Lotus Notes apart from it's horrible, nasty and not relational.

Any ideas where I start?

You can't just stick a database on the server. You need to have Domino Server running. As far as how you feel about Notes. I have found those that no nothing about it feel the same way. It can be a very powerful tool in the hands of a good developer, the problem is most developers only use a portion of Notes capabilites.

Check out the Domino Enterprise Integration portion of Domino. This will require coordinating and setting up with your Domino administrators, but would allow SQL to talk to the Domino db and Domino to talk to the SQL server.
