I want to update a numeric field in my Notes database by using an "update query" in MS Access.

(I am using the latest version of NotesODBC)

I create my select query in Access and all is good. When I change this query into an update query, Access warns me that I am about to change data in my linked table. This is what I want to do so I click on YES and then it tells me that the query needs to be an update query (which it is!)

Anybody else doing this or can I get some help on running an agent here?

The numeric field is null on some records and I need to change these values to a '0' (zero) so that calculations can be made on all records.

I think the error msg is that you should use an updatABLE query, not an update query. THis means that your initial select query should allow you to change values by manual entry.

Sometimes update queries don't work when you don't have a unique index in the table u r trying to update.

Agreed. Allan, if you are using Access to do your calculations, then you can normally get round problems with nulls without running updates on the database. Peter Meachem

I was getting a similar message about an odbc database in Access 97. The solution was to right click in the grey area of the query design, go to properties, and make sure unique records or unique values was set to "Yes".

No, the problem is the SQL ODBC that I have downloaded from Lotus.com seems to be read only access to an .nsf file.

I have found this out now I have read the online documentation (RTFM!)

Anyone know of an alternative connection method or different ODBC by a third party?
