Dear all,

I use networker 7.3.2 and lotus notes module 3.0

I have a domino server to be backuped by networker lotus module. I set 03 browse policies:
- 10 days: for daily backup, the saveset will be active in 10 days
- 5 weeks: for weekly backup, the tape will be active in 5 weeks
- 12 months: for monthly backup, will be active in 12 months

and create 3 group: daily, weekly, monthly.

After 2months, I found that I only can browse all saveset in 10 days, older saveset was expired but the index saveset is recoverble.

How can I restored the expired saveset or extend browse time for weekly and monthly backup ?

I am a networker newbie, please help on this,

many thanks,

Sounds weird but some details are missing. If you just define the browse and retention dates via the policies, then - if the save sets are all the same - usually, the most conservative (the longest) policy will be used. Not the shortest one.

Now, you set the BP and the RP to the same dates. That is o.k.
Actually, since NW 7.3.0, you can assign a retention policy to a pool. This in my eyes is the easiest way:

- Create a pool for eeach group
- Choose the appropriate retention policy for each pool
- Setup the pools to filter the data by group name

Thanks 605,

Please have a look on my configuration

I configure the same saveset for all,
-saveset:
NOTES:D:\Lotus\Domino

-backup command:
nsrnotesv.exe -z configure_on_domino_server.txt

- browse policy and retention policy is the same.

- retention policy on each pool has not been set.

I will set the retention policy for each pool as your advices,

thanks for help,

Hi,

there are actually two places you can set browse and retention when using Notes module. You can set it in the GUI on the client resource as you have done, or you can specify it in the configuration file for Notes. In your case that would be the file configure_on_domino_server.txt.

The config file overrides the client resource, so I would start by having a look in the config file. If there are entries about retention and browse you could comment them out so the client resource on the networker server decides the browse/retention.

Hi Rif123,

Can you have a look my configure_on_domino_server.txt as below ?
I have not setup browse policy and retention policy in this file, could you show me how to do it ?

Many thanks,

Hello,

This file looks fine. I thought since you didn't get other than 10 days browse and retention that maybe it was set in this config file. That would override what is actually specified in the client resource. There are no NSR_SAVESET_BROWSE or NSR_SAVESET_RETENTION set in the file so the client resource should determine the actual browse and retention for the backup.

Setting the retention policy on the pool, which is a very nice feature, will not change the browse policy though. You should use three different pools otherwise it would be no point of having different retentions on the backups

As 605 already pointed out this should work with different client instances with different browse/retention. If it doesn't work the save set should get the longest retention. That's way I assumed you had browse and retention configured in the config file since it in your case seem to get the shortest.

After next backup, you could run a mminfo to determine the lenght of the browse and retention. You specify something like this:

mminfo -q "client=YourClientName, savetime>=yesterday" -r name,savetime(20),ssretent,ssbrowse

This should list your last backups. You can of course use a different query and report to use different or more results.

Dear all,

My problem has been resolved, I have tried as your advices and it works better now, the daily browse policy and retention policy work perfectly. Here is the result:
