Lotus notes 6 issue

I have been having an issue with the multi user client. I have one user who is attempting to use lotus notes on another machine which is ok. Thing is when he goes to log in he is getting an error message about Lotus 6 requiring an updated bookmark.ntf file. I have tried replacing the file to no avail. Has anyone run into this, and if so, what was the fix?

Haven't been into the described problem, but the first thing that hits me is: Does the person have minimum READ access to the template? An easy check is to see if there is such things involved, assuming that it's running on a system with local (or server) based file- and access control.

Might of course be totally different problem, I still know that sometimes access restrictions can be an issue from time to time...

Hey thanks the way the client account is set up on the machine is that it is a multi user account. As of now there are two users of the machine in question and both of them have separate accounts.

Different data area on the local machine for the users?
Or network based storage of 'local' Notes files? (In e.g. each users share on the network server 'maps' up when login on. In e.g. \\server\users\%username%\lotus\notes\data to use UNC as an example)

If it is shared, local and works for one and not the other, this is a strange issue, yes. If that is the case I am still leaning towards OS specific checking, for nothing else to eliminate it as a possible cause.

The other check you can do is to verify ACL for the user with trouble to the .NTF/.NSF databases in question...

Separate accounts, do you mean separate user id and separate mail files, I guess?

A lot of questions, but it is just an effort to narrow down the problem...

Yes the way multi user clients work is that each profile on the machine gets a c:\documentsandsettings\username\localfiles\lotus\notes\data file structure. As a result the lotus client should be pointing at the c\lotus\notes\data (I think)

And what about NOTES.INI file(s), where are this (or they) located? Check the shortcut to the Notes client if there is a pointer there (in e.g notes.exe =c:\lotus\notes\notes.ini)

There could be that the NOTES.INI is shared and points to the same data area, then probably to the one that works. Then it COULD be a conflict since the data in the above setup is located in different folders, but both users are accessing one area isntead of separate areas on the machine.

Try the following:
- Search through the machine for occurances of NOTES.INI
- When/If 1 found, copy 2 copies of the notes.ini into somewhere in their user folders, 1 for each user.
(If more than one, see the location)
- Modify one of them to point to the 'failing' users notes data area
- rename the original notes.ini to in.e.g. notesbck.ini and keep it as a backup
- try to change the last part of the notes shortcut to something like =c:\documentsandsettings\%username%\localfiles\lotus\notes\notes.ini (where %username% is the default environment variable in Windows, but check your system by typing SET in a command prompt)
- Test and adjust any problems

I hope this can bring you a little step forward...
