Well, I haven't lost the baseline, but all the text in my 36pp magazine file has shifted off it, so columns of type are no longer aligned horizontally. Baseline shift is set at zero, Align to Baseline Grid is on. I've tried turning the Align off and on again, with no effect. At the same time InDesign (CS2, with Mac OS 10.5.2) keeps making blank lines between paragraphs, where none are set; closing them up just makes the gap jump back to the previous para.
Have I got a corrupted version of InDesign?

INDD CS2 was made for 10.3 & 104 on Power PC. I don't know if it has problems under 10.5. If you have an Intel mac, CS2 will be running under the Rosetta emulator and people have reported a lot of problems. If your machine is an Intel mac, definitely purchase the upgrade.

However, since it's unknown what type of Mac you're running, it's awful hard to make a guess whether it a problem with the app or OS, You can always due the usual trashing of preferences to see if that helps or reinstall the app. If you reinstall, make sure that you not only trash the app folder, but also the INDD prefs before reinstalling.

Using OSX 10.3.9 & 10.4.11 on a G4, G5 & Intel Macbook

No, it's a G4 PowerPC. I'll try ditching the prefs, but I haven't got the install disks because I bought it with CS2 already installed. Thanks again.
