I am a consultant and on my site we have a Sun Ultra-2 that I want to bring up for Oracle. I have the workstation on my desk. I am the Oracle DBA. No one here knows any passwords or knows where the cds are. I called Sun and they want a $2500 PO just to talk to me. Can anyone help me bring up this machine?

Are there specifics I need to know about when burning a CD. He at least knew what a ISO file was!

Well it should have made it bootable when it was created. Are you able to see anything on the disc if you stick it in a pc?

yes. i can traverse through the folders, etc.

He did not say bootable CD. He is gone now! I have a personal copy of Roxio and a CD burner at home. I'm going to burn one this weekend. Wait. That didn't sound right! Soooo Close. Thanks Annihilannic!

Some CDRs don't work on Sun boxes, that has been my experience.

Try a blank Toyo uden , sp ? if you can get hold of one

I used to download a Solaris Exporess Version. I had some problems burning the CD. Fix was: the image itself was not bootable, I had to download another iso-file. I usually burn 8x speed, since Sun's OBP/CDdrive seems to be a little bit fussy about that.

Best Regards, Franz

Hi again. I received the CDs, which turned out to be DVDs. Does this matter. Is there a 'boot dvdrom -s"? It has been booting for a while over a half hour. It just says:

Rebooting with command: boot cdrom -s
Boot device: /sbus/SUNW,fas@e,8800000/sd@6, 0:f File and args: -s

No blinking on the cdrom any more.

I believe the drive on the E2 is a CD drive ? In which case it's not going to boot.
