I recently downloaded an update that installed windows live essentials and after that I opened my outlook 2007 and my personal folder .pst was gone not hidden gone. I am running Vista home.

Have you done a search of your C: drive to see if your .pst is in fact on the drive?

sam

Yes I have searched all my drives with different key words just in case, I also tried a undelete program and it found something like .pst.tmp but not near the size of my folder only like 65k.

Unfortunately If you searched the drive where your pst was stored e.g.

[Start] > [Search] > [all files and folders] > [all or part of name] *.pst > [look in] Local Hard Drive C:

and found nothing, then I'd say chances are your file is gone.

Maybe try a different un-delete program or even go back to the last good version a day before you did the fatal update.

I would say, go back to a restore point on your PC before you installed Live essentials.

If that does not work, I would use a boot CD like Hirens boot CD or an ubuntu live CD, boot from it, and start searching your C:\ Drive for PST files that are hidden inside your profile somewhere.

Just an FYI that the PST file would not be archived by System Restore. So reverting back to a prior restore point wouldn't make any difference.

Ernie,
Not sure how much luck you're gonna have finding it, but for future reference, consider making your own backups using 3rd-party tools like Acronis True Image or Norton's GoBack, especially before installing new applications or software updates.
