I have mandrake 7.0, I had x running fine (KDE) for the longest time. A couple of weeks ago the auto detect program kicked in as it was loading and said that it found new hardware (a mouse). It asked if I wanted to install the mouse driver, I said no thinking that there is already one there. After this my mouse would not work in X. I am positive that it is a simple setting in a configuration file some where that I can't find :). Any help restoring mouse functionality or getting the autodetect program to work would be greatly appreciated.

I would also like to know how to disable the autodetect program (the marvelous thing that it is ;) ) and go back to setting things up by configuration files. That is what I love about linux, so much control, maybe too much control ;)

fenris
fenris@hotmail.com

Yes, you can turn off autodetect, but I forget how. If you can't find the HOWTO, let me know.
Octalman

If you mean the auto-detect that runs during startup, then that will be the "kudzu" program. Find all the "S*kudzu" files in the /etc/rc.d/rc?.d directories and remove them.

And you're right about the mouse settings for X. Take a look in /etc/X11/XF86Config. There is a well commented "Pointer" section in there that is used to define the settings for your mouse. You need to set about 3 or 4 parameters, and then you should be up and running again. Without knowing what type of mouse you use, I can't really say "set this, set that, set the other", but you should be able to see what needs to be set.

Hope this helps.

--
Thank you AndyBo, I just needed to know which file to look into, from there I can mess around till it works. Thanks for the info on the autodetect as well.
