My power went out while I was on my computer and when I went
to turn it back on Windows would not accept my password. I
have the only administrator account so I can't reset it that
way. I found a thread that supposedly answered this question but it didnt work for me. Here is the link.

If buee04 or wolluf is out there and know how this worked please let me know. Or if anyone else knows how to fix this
problem please let me know. I really have to get on to my
computer. Thanks.

I didn't have time to try the link ( subsequent fix suggestion(s) you identify as not working for you, so I apoligize if the link I'm giving here is in effect similar or identical to what you've already tried. But, I found this link:
and on the fifth response, you will see directions on restoring administrator's password by downloading:
Download the two files.

Sakka252,
I once had an experience like this. But it was my UserName account (notAdministrator). The first thing that I did is that I booted the system in safe mode (by pressing F8 at startup). Fortunately, I did nothing to the Administrator account. I just logged on to WinXP using this account and changed my UserName account password.

Hope this helps..

Just to let everyone know. I ended up getting the info on the first
link I posted to work. It led me to this website where I downloaded
an image and created a boot cd.

It will allow the password of any user to be changed without
knowing the original. It is very easy. Which kind of scares me, not
that I have anything important on my computer but I am sure there
are people that do and this boot cd just goes right around the security
of the logon password. Anyway this link will work to recover a lost
or forgotten password on Windows NT/2000/XP. So anyone having
trouble with password recovery look no further.
