One of our off site locations has recently moved from a small office to a larger one where we have the Cisco CM in place. But in the process our IT department obtained a IP403 Office system, and we are attempting to go in and reconfig it for another off site location in the field. But since it was set up a few years back the install tech never told our IT department the password for it. Is there any way to go in and reset this w/o resetting the entire config on it?

The first thing is to review your options using the console serial port at the rear of the telephone system.
There are a number of commands available but I must confess normally we normally erase the current config as a recovery.

Secondly I dont know if there are any old Manager directories arround? If you can find an old .cfg that is automatically downloaded to a PC when you do any configuration, then you should have a copy. Perhaps on the old engineers PC, or on a server running Manager?

Hope this helps.

Only way that I have been able to access the system is by going in via IP. Was wanting to keep the config to kinda see how they did it to set up the system. This will be my first Avaya system to work on, my previous experience is in the Cisco CM and Vodavi Infinite lines

If you have an old config open it up in manager and use a program called snadboys revelation (google) to reveal the system password.

If not then you'll have to default the unit or try guessing!

What version of SW do you have?
I was sure with the newer versions (Newer Manager Version 3.2 onwards) There was a DTE command to reset the security settings only but leave the config in tact.
Let me do some looking.

Procedure: Defaulting Security Settings
This process defaults the IP Office's security settings but does not alter its configuration settings.

1.

Attach the serial cable between the PC and the DTE port on the IP Office control unit.
2.

Start the terminal program on your PC. Ensure that it has been setup as listed in DTE Port Settings. Within a HyperTerminal session, the current settings are summarized across the base of the screen.
3.

Enter AT (note upper case). The control unit should respond OK.
4.

Enter AT-SECURITYRESETALL.
5.

You will be prompted to confirm the control unit's MAC address before continuing. Enter the address.
6.

The control unit will respond OK when the action has been completed.
7.

Close the terminal program session.
8.

Manager can now be used to receive and edit the control unit's now defaulted security settings.
