I have users that are loosing their connection to mapped drives. When they log in, the login script maps certain drives for them (net use). When the user is idle for a certain period of time (maybe an hour or so), the network drives appear with a red X over them. And when they try to connect to them, they get an error. The user has to re-boot their machine in order to re-gain access to the network drives.

Anyone know how to stop this behavior?

I had the same problem with SBS 4.5 and Windows 2000 Clients. I searched everywhere for a solution. There wasn't much out there that talked about this issue. However, the way i resolved it was by rebooting the SBS 4.5 server. After I did that I never had that problem again. It might not be a great solution but it worked for me.

Please let me know if it works out for you.

When they get the red X, try running the net use command from a dos prompt and seeing what it tells you about the drives... it may say it is getting disconnected.

You can also try the following command at the dos prompt:
net config server /autodisconnect:65535

that sets the disconnect time to 65535 (a long time :) CJ

net config server /autodisconnect:-1

Is suppose to turn off disconnect period. CJ
