I had a virus on my pc. it has XP pro. I used anti virus to cure it. somehow in the process I managed to delete my wininet.dll and another dll. I don't know if it was just un-registered or was really gone. the search I did for *.dll only showed the acro-whatever dll's. I need to restore all the *.dll files to be sure everything is back to normal. what I did was put the windows98 system disk in the cd drive and used the XP install utility to extract the win98???40.cab file to the XP system folder. my internet connection seems to work now but I am very afraid I will cause irreversible damage if I leave the win98 stuff there. how do I get my XP pro *.dll files back?

You COULD try and do a repair of your WinXp installation. And reinstall/repair existing apps after you do the repair.

Why do you need the Win98 cab file(s)???? You SHOULD be using the WinXP files. Also do a google search for updates and download/install any new updates for your apps.

I don't have the XP system book/dist/doc etc. the pc was given to me. I tried to do a restore from 11-23 and 10-8 and they did not work either. I don't need the win98 stuff, I did not have any other system disk to work with. I don't know how to do a repair. I will try to do an update from the net. is microsoft the best site for that?

Your best bet is to go and purchase WinXP. That way you will have the cd.

You can also do a google search (or use whatever search engine u like) for wininet.dll. Down load it, unzip it, if necessarry, and then put the dll in your windwos\system folder.

Do the same with any other dll's you get errors for.
