Hi There,

I tried to backup my access database to a zip disk. I thought all was well until I tried to open it again. I got the message "Products 2000.mdb was busy during backup. It cannot be restored or compared.

Unrecognized database format <filename>. (Error 3343)
Possible causes:

The specified file name is not a Microsoft Jet database.
The specified file name is a device name, for example, a printer or a console.
The .mdb file has invalid header information or an unknown sort order.
A commit is pending from another user but the lock file cannot be found.
During a commit, you are attempting to write a Long value larger than the 2K maximum page size.
The database is damaged. Compact the database and then try opening it again.

When I found my database is showed a .lnk extention.

Is there anything I can do? I have tried to restore it repair it compress it decompress it - nothing! Help!
All you can do is create a new .MDB
then import the Tables, Queries, Macros and any thing that does not have VBA code in it.
Try everything of course but you will probably get errors on some things.

When you get it back create a .MDE out of it and you will never have that problem again.
Now if someone is in it when you make a copy to Zip it will probably corrupt make sure everyone is out.
To know for sure look for a .ldb file with the same name as the .mdb if there is NOT one the copy it.
If there is then someone is in it.
If no one is in it and you have the .ldb and cannot delete the .ldb then you have to reboot the machine its on, even if its a server in order to free it up.
Thank you Doug -
I can't even locate the tables, quy, forms etc. I fear the data is lost. When I open my database, I get the error message and a blank screen. ug. Unfortunately, I don't have a server yet, and I was the only one using the file. I built it for my department to use after we get networked and was trying to install it on another pc.

I have in the past recreated a new MDB and that seems to work great. How do I change it to MDE and if I do, can I still edit the program and maintain the data? I fear that once it is changed over I won't have control ... sounds so female hugh?

Thanks again for the help.
