lost data - palm desktop

Hi,

My client has a palm (can't remember the model) and hotsyncs it with their pc using the hotsync option. Last week they tried to hotsync it but had problems (the only info they gave me was "It didn't work!"). Now all the data from the palm desktop has disappeared. Luckily we have a back up but it is a couple of weeks old and doesn't have quite a lot of info in it.

My theory is that when the hotsync 'didn't work' that it actually wrote the empty contents of the palm over the files on the pc so wiping out all the data. I know they did say the palm itself was empty.

Does anyone think this is a plausible explanation for what has happened? This is the second time this has happened, always just before they go away and try to hotsync.

Check the hotsync log to see what happened during the sync

Go to the hotsync icon in system tray and you can access log file from there (IIRC)

Check their HotSync custom settings. It may be set that the handheld overwrites the desktop instead of syncronizing the two.

Thanks,

Talking to the client, it seems that the hoysync may not be responsible for the problem after all. My client assures me that the desktop version was still OK after the hotsync attempt.

Has anyone else had the experience of losing all their data from the desktop version?
