I have a simple SMS installation: SMS 2003 SP1 running on the same server as SQL2000 that houses the database.
A couple of days ago, on the server using the SMS MMC console, I couldn't connect to the database. I had the administrators console on my machine, and could see the data from my machine.
Since then, the connection to my local machine has also failed. I get an immediate error when I try to connect that says "The Site Server cannot be contacted. Please enter a new Site Server Name."
I tried these steps to fix it so far:
1. I deleted the administrators profile, because the start menu and control panel were missing objects.
2. I ran the MP troubleshooter, and it returned an error that ccmexec is not running. I ran the client install on the server.
3. I uninstalled SMS, leaving the database intact. I reinstalled, but couldn't get it to run the install without creating a new database. I ran it creating a new database, with the intentions of pointing the server to the old database after the install. However, I still get the same error message when I try to connect to the SMS server.
Any ideas to try before beginning again with a new install and blank database? I really don't want to lose all the information in the database.
Thank you,
Dan
