lost connection Novell 5.1

We have two Novell 5.1 servers with the latest sp. Recently we have changed one for a new ML350 with a Smart Array 641 Controller. Now users lost there connection with the new server, also when we use Arcserve the users can not login anymore. We have to restart the server.

User .ska.Alg.Pon on station 55 cleared by connection watchdog.
Connection cleared due to communication or station failure.

do you mean when arcserve is backing up? or the next morning post backup they cant login

not all that up on watchdog's but this just looks like you need to check the watchdog settings

also on the 350 what compaq support pack are you on?
find this out at server type m cpq*
should be 6.4

The next morning users can not login. When we install compaq sp 6.40 we get an abbend.

Server NOPFILE halted Tuesday, January 6, 2004 5:18:48.558 pm
Abend 1 on P00: Server-5.00k: Page Fault Processor Exception (Error code 00000000)


The update log shows then the following message:

FATAL EXCEPTION (Number 14, cause Abend page fault running process CPQDPLOY_main 1EIP : FC095AA2h)

so what pack are you on ?

to be truthful - i have never ever seen an abend on cpqdploy
so hopefully someone else will comment - but ?

does the job finish?
after the job - what is the server like?
ie in monitor - kernel useage etc

We have installed the compaq 7.0 pack now. Users still lost their connection with the server. This happens when there is a lot of data traffic. The same happens with arcserve.

Have you forced the network speed and duplex settings on both your server and switch? Also, is File Caching switched off?

We have disabled the client file caching. We have tried it with different network speed and duplex settings. We have only the problem with this new server. Today we did a complete new installation of novell 5.1 with sp6 and compaq sp7. Till now everything looks ok.

Also cannot install Arcserve 6.1 on same system. Getting error Arcserve does not have supervisory rights on this server. But admin has supervisory rights.

Veritas 9.1 for netware can be installed and works fine.
