Lost CD Writing Feature with Pinnacle Instant CD DVD

After installing Instant CD DVD trial to evaluate the software, i noticed i can no longer use the feature in XP to write files directly to a CD. I tried uninstalling Instant CD/DVD and still wasn't able to use the feature. Is there a way to edit the registry maybe to re-enable this feature? After uninstalling the Instant CD/DVD, traces still seem to remain, probably in the registry, how do i get rid of it completely?

I also tried to do a restore and was told that it could not be restored.

Does Instant CD/DVD have any cleanup utilty or help on their site?

Check and see if the IMAPI Service was disabled and reset it to Manual.

On the CD Drive property page under the Recording Tab make sure "Enable CD recording on this drive" is checked.

I checked DVD/CD-RW Drive (M Properties does not have a Recording Tab ... I only have General - AutPlay - Hardware - QuickFinder - Sharing .. the Type: CD Drive. I am able to use the drive with Nero to burn. The IMAPI service was set to Manual .. any other suggestions?

I just noticed under the Hardware tab, there is an ADDITIONAL DVD/CD-Rom drive .. "VOBID InstantDrive CD SCSI CdRom Device ... i believe this was created when the Instant CD/DVD software was installed ...

You could try System Restore back to a point before the install.

Sometimes the following Registry Fix may help with CD troubles, just make sure you backup (export) any keys before using it.



1. Click Start. Click Run. Type regedit and press Enter.

2. Expand the branches in the left panel and locate the following key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely.

4. Restart the computer.
