I suddenly lost the CD rw. I can't see it when clicking on my computer. When I go to Control panel-System-DEvice manager, the CD-RW status is 'This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (code 31)'. Please help.

The drive had to have come with a cd that has drivers on it that's what it's looking for. When you find it run the setup or install from the cdrom drive. If that doesn't work find out the maker of the cdrw then go to their website and they will have the drivers there. What kind of drive is it and what operating system do you have?

Have you recently uninstalled or reinstalled burning software? This was an issue a friend had earlier after uninstalling Nero. If so there is a fix for it at their site.

p.s.
If you recently installed and / or unistalled easy CD creator 5.01 or direct CD 301c or 301d, that is what caused the problem. Windows XP has a compatibility issue with those afore mentioned pieces of software.
