Hi to all,

Currently, my computer account is being disabled in the Win 2000 server. I need to rejoin to the domain in order to be in the network again. The problem is that I couldnt log on to the computer because I dont have the administrator password for that computer running on windows 2000 professional. I also couldnt log onto any account because I dont have the password for any account. I guess I need to change the password using a bootdisk or crack the password. If so, how should do it?? Pls help. Thank you

Regards,
Kimtong

I use pwdump2 to pull out the password and used a LC3 to crack the hash. It is strange that there is no account being set.....but I cannot logon to the system??

If this comp was part of a domain earlier, then why can't you re-enable the account at the server and log back on to the domain and then create another local user under, say, administrator2?

angktwap...

I have stumbled into basically the same problem that you had - ie., the administrator password to a W2K Professional workstation has been lost. The workstation is still up and running, and is used as a stand-alone platform for a specific application. The administrator account was, apparently, the only one ever set up! The problem is that now no one can log into the physical machine, and we need to be able to do so. I have a drive on my personal workstation mapped to the C drive of this W2K workstation, so I can get to files, add/copy/delete stuff, and so forth, but we need to be able to now physically log into the workstation to make configuration changes. I am afraid to drop my connection to the W2K box because, once I do, I will probably not be able to map to it again - no one else is able to at the present time. You mentioned that you had managed to get the password with one tool (pwdump2) and crack it with another. Could you elaborate on this process? Otherwise, if anyone else is lurking here, could you give me some hints as to how I am going to get out of this pickle? I would appreciate any constructive ideas that ANYONE would be willing to provide. I know I can't be the first person to find themselves in this situation... thanks in advance. :)

wolluf... you are correct, my machine is not a part of a domain. I only wish it were so that I could have tried what you suggest. However, I lucked up and found that there was another ID on the machine that had previously been granted Administrator privileges, so I was able to log on with that ID and reset the Administrator password. Problem solved. ;-) But to you (and everyone else) out there who have offered suggestions and possible resolutions for this kind of problem, my thanks and heartfelt respects.
