I saved artwork with an embedded TIF grayscale picture in Adobe Illustrator 10 on PC. When re-opening the file in Freehand 10 or Freehand MX on PC, the TIF is lost. There is only an empty rectangle (only seen in wireframe mode) instead of the picture.

Importing the Illustrator EPS in any other program (CorelDraw, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop) gives fine and complete results.

I have tried several things: Saving EPS in version Illustrator 8 and PS level 1. Result: only EPS header is shown in Freehand, no editing possible.

Importing the Illustrator EPS in Corel and re-exporting it as Level-2-EPS: Freehand opens fine and with the grayscale picture. But this could not be the solution...

Anyone knows this problem and has an idea?

This is a difference in how Illustrator saves editable EPS files. Why not save it as a regular Illustrator file and import it in Freehand?

Simple answer: The Illustrator EPS was sent to my service bureau (advetisement for a newspaper). And this bureau makes its layouts - with Freehand. They only want EPS files - couldn't do anything.

But there must be a reason why all other programs can read the Illustrator EPS very fine - and only Freehand makes such anger. EPS is standard, and I think that especially a company like Macromedia should have an eye on such lousy things.
