Hopefully I'm posting this in the right forum. If not, let me know, and I'll repost.

I administer a domain for a small company. We run some proprietary software that operates as a front end over a SQL 2000 back end, with an ODBC connection. My problem is this: several times a day, various PCs on my network will drop their ODBC connection to my SQL server. I have tried numerous fixes, including MDAC reinstalls from ver. 2.5-2.8, checking and updating network drivers and settings, etc. My network layout is as follows: Adtran NetVanta 3200 router, Linksys 24-port 10/100 switch, PDC is Xeon 2.8 w/2 gigs running Win 2K Advanced Server, Intel MB with onboard NICs, and is handling DHCP, Wins, SQL, and DNS. Workstations are all 2K Pro running on AMD Athlon XP 2000+ with 512 megs on Asus A7N266 MB using onboard network. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A real shot in the dark here:

Do they lose connectivity to the network or just the SQL Server? Do all machines lose connectivity or just the same few machines?

Have you checked that there is no power management on the NICs?

It is the same few machines which lose all network connectivity. I have checked the power management settings, and they were disabled. I also tried running a new network patch cable from the network closet to one of the problematic machines and got the same result. Any further ideas, anyone?

Hey Jbotz,

did you ever figure out your problem. if you did can you let me now. i have the same issues.

thx

How is the network layed out? Are all of these machines in question connected to the same switch? If so you may have a bad port or switch. Also try punching down the connections at the port and patch panel.

Check the switch, I had the same thing a while back and it turned out to be a service we use to monitor our network for problems. The switches had the HTML interface activated and when they would initiate a scan it would send a couple of switches into orbit and the machines on those switches would lose the connection. When I disabled the HTML managemant on the switches it stopped.
