I keep getting disk full messages for my hard drive which is supported by the Disk Space tool telling me my 2gb drive has only 100mb free ....... problem is, my hard drive is an 18gb drive, not 2gb !!!!

What's going on ???????????

what are the specs and OS you are running? Could be only drives up to 2 gig are supported. you could boot from a rescue floppy and run fdisk to see what the partition info is. This will tell you if it is 2gig or the full 18gig it should be...

I ran scandisk which confirmed an 18gb drive, I then defragged for several hours (!) but, although more space is now available, the Drive Space tool is still reporting a 2gb capacity !

I'm running Win 98SE and I've had no problems before with the hard drive !

What hardware are you running? It is possible that the 18 gig drive is partitioned to only use 2 gig. also some older software will report a 2 gig drive even when it's larger. for instance, when I check system properties in photoshop it tells me drive c:/ is 2 gigs when really it's 40 gigs. This doesn't stop it from using the full space though. who makes this "drive space" you are using? Did you use fdisk to examine the partition info? you could also use partition magic. Also run a full virus scan, some of these can cause drives to misreport space or fill up the space with garbage files.

I ran FDISK and it confirmed it was an 18gb drive ..... so what do I do now ?!!!

The disk space utility is accessible from START/PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/SYSTEM TOOLS ...... I think !

Okay ....... I've gone into "My Computer", right clicked the C Drive, selected properties and it confirms 18gb drive with 17gb used up.

My issue now is with 17gb used up ...... I don't have a huge amount of software on board and I'm struggling to find evidence to back up 17gb used !

Is there a quick and easy way to check folder sizes, without having to open up each one and check the individual file sizes ?

If you don't have much software installed,it shouldn't be too hard to track down what is using the space.Open explorer and select c:\ drive so that all the folders in the root of c:\ are displayed. Then right click on a folder ( my documents for example) and select properties. This will then list how many sub folders are under my documents and the total space used by all of them combined. This should quicly narrow down where all the space is being used.

Or...do a search in FIND.

Search for files ---- AT LEAST - 3000 KB

If your system has been making large files, they will show up.

Drive Space is used for compressing hard drives and only supports drives of up to 2GB in size. If you have a larger hard drive, then it will always report it as 2GB. Instead, open My Computer and right-click on the drive, and then select properties to really see the size.
