I have a problem with my new DSL connection failing after an unspecified time.
I am running XP Pro with SP1 and a DSL modem connected directly to a USB port. My internet connection shows up as a Local Area Connection running at 10Mbps and I have a dynamic IP address that is automatically assigned to me. Everything works fine except that I keep getting disconnected - this may be after 20 hours or 3 or 12. It happens when the PC is unattended or when I'm streaming a radio program. When I try and repair the connection I get the 'Error renewing the ip address, purging the dns resolver cache' message. When i restart the system everything is okay again.
I've tried a number of solutions - applying the WinsockFix patch, getting completely rid of an old ZoneAlarm installation, making sure no devices are set to power down when not used. I think that it may be because my DHCP lease isn't being renewed but I can't seem to track down why this is happening.
Anyone got any ideas?
thanks....
