lose call on first ring

Here's a fun one. I have a phone that when it rings if you pick up the handset before the first ring stops the line drops.
My solution is to not pick up the handset until the first ring is done, but the user sees it a different way.

Anyone know why this would happen?

analog or digital? analog does that if it has a slight ground on the ring side. if it's digital i would change the tn
